I did this one thing to up my self-care game

One evening I was scrolling on my phone listening to a young lady mention a few things to do for self-care. The first thing she mentioned was pajama sets. Don’t ask what the rest of the suggestion were, I didn’t stick around on her page to listen because I was so taken aback by the first suggestion. Pajamas??

This was something I never considered before. You see, I’m a sleep in a oversized t-shirt or some old clothes kind of girl. Though I’d received pajamas as a Christmas gift before, I never really thought twice about what I wore to bed. It occurred to me that incorporating pajama sets into my night routine might be fun and beneficial. So I tried it.

Before I go on about how the pajama addition changed the game for me, we should discuss what self-care is like for us currently. I feel that today there are a few, at this point very popularized, ways we can tend to ourselves and practice self-care.

A few things you can do to practice self-care:

  • Journal – Writing is so powerful. You’d be surprised at how starting or ending your day with just 10 minutes of journaling can shape your life. Whether you write thoughtfully or simply like to brain-dump, getting your thoughts on paper is a great way to unwind or practice mindfulness.  Personally, I like having multiple journals for different purposes.
  • Hot baths – What’s more relaxing than a hot bubble bath? Baths are a time to unwind and relax plus its great for the muscles. Epsom salt can really get you where you need to go with the bath.
  • Exercise – Physical exercise is great for staying in- and maintaining shape of course, but it’s also great for reducing stress. How can you stay mad about something after an intense workout? It’s a great way to redirect thoughts and unwelcomed energy, plus you get results in real-time.
  • Rest – Getting your rest is the highest form of self-care in my opinion. What’s more radical and sincere than simply owning your time, and choosing to recharge?

Every now and then, spend time assessing your self-care habits and routines. Sometimes you may need a little razzle dazzle. Have you checked through your self-care routine lately?

On to the PJs…

So I did it: I invested in pajama sets.

As I mentioned, I usually don’t do that. It’s big tee’s and old clothes for me. But the idea of having cute and comfortable nightwear really grabbed my attention. Why would it matter what you sleep in anyway?

Sleeping in actual sets just helps you feel good. I know you’re headed to bed soon and no one is gonna see you but guess what, you see you. Wearing sets is just a cute, pleasant way to head to dream land. Go in style! You can be comfortable and cute!

Just because you up your pajama game doesn’t mean you have to do away with the tee’s. Don’t throw away the old clothes and tee’s, store them away. If you’re like me, many of those tee’s hold some sort of sentimental value.

Remember, this slight change to your self-care and night time routine is to BENEFIT you. If it brings more stress to your life or arbitrary concerns that you’d rather not deal with–don’t bother. This doesn’t have to be an expensive investment eiher. You can get your PJs from marked-down retailers. If you want to invest in high quality, long-lasting sets go for it! It’s really the thought that counts. My little $15 pajama sets are comfy and cute and I ain’t mad at’em. I found several pajamas for the low: a lounge set with a cami, shorts, and robe; two top and bottom sets that are for my eyes and his; and a warm set of matching long sleeve top and pants.

I’ve been at it in my new PJs sets for about a month now and their effect still holds true. You know sometimes things are amazing because of the thrill of getting something new, then after a while it’s like ehhhh. Haven’t experienced that yet—I’m still loving looking cute throughout the house and didn’t break the bank to make it happen.

Next time you’re out, consider grabbing a set or two. You won’t regret it.
