Fun Things to do in Las Vegas

Known for its entertainment, casinos, high-end retail and hotels, Las Vegas is a one-of-a-kind destination that’s sure to keep you busy. I recently visited Las Vegas on a girls’ Trip with my mom and godmother. I learned there are tons of things to do! Here’s a recap of our visit to Las Vegas, Nevada! If you’ve never been to Vegas, let this serve as a travel starter-pack for your journey. If you have been, let me know the places I should try next time!

We’ll get straight to the point—for more details of my personal travel experience see the bottom! Don’t forget to watch my mini recap of Las Vegas too!

1. Walk the strip

The best part about Vegas is there’s a lot you can do and many things are free! Walking the Las Vegas Strip is 100% free! You can see all the stores, restaurants, bars and people-watch. There’s always people out and about and even entertainment. Be mindful of the photo ops with people in costume on the Strip—they will expect some dollars. There’s also drink spots to grab daiquiris and other drinks. There’s tons of places with casinos too if that’s your thing.

2. Shop or Window Shop

The Las Vegas Strip is filled with beautiful resorts and hotels. Try visiting a few that you aren’t staying in. If you’re into retail, one place to visit on your trip to Las Vegas is the Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian Resort. The Venetian is a huge hotel, mall and casino with plenty of stores ranging from low-end to luxury and plenty of restaurants and snack spots. The mall is beautiful with painted ceilings and aesthetically pleasing Italy vibes. You can grab food here too! Treasure Island is another pretty cool place to visit in Las Vegas with its large casino area and expansive list of places to shop.

3. Visit the Bellagio Fountain

If you walk the Las Vegas Strip at night you can’t miss the Bellagio Fountains. It’s a huge fountain in front of Bellagio hotel. At night the fountain becomes an animated, well-lit concert stage fountain that turns on and runs with different songs of the night. Seeing the Bellagio Fountain show is a must for your trip to Las Vegas. It’s pretty cool and free.99.

4. Go to a Show

Shows and entertainment are absolute must-dos when visiting Las Vegas. Any big-name entertainers you know, whether they’re musicians, singers, comedians, anybody—visit Las Vegas. There are tons of impersonator shows too along with all types of entertainment. I saw a Cirque du Soleil show for the first time. Definitely ask your hotel if they offer discounted ticket prices for shows.

5. Visit Fremont Street

Look–another free thing to do in Las Vegas! You have to get the Fremont Street Experience or Old Las Vegas as some would call it. Fremont Street is filled with lots of flashing lights and a computer simulation screen as a ceiling(?)—you just have to see it. You can walk along Fremont Street and experience live entertainment and find plenty of slot machines. There’s plenty of bars, restaurants, and casinos, recreational stores, and souvenir spots all waiting to help you have a good time. The cool thing about Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas is that it’s a completely different vibe from the Las Vegas Strip–it’s lit!

Recap of my Trip to Las Vegas, NV

Late this summer I went on a weekend trip with my mom and godmother. I haven’t been on a destination vacation this year so why not! We hadn’t been on a destination vacation together for a few years so I was gladly ready to hit GO when my mom suggested vacationing during the summer. Being the laid back, ready-for-whatever, (libra moon, honestly) person that I am, I encouraged my mother to choose our spot. With flight prices skyrocketing post-2020, international flights didn’t really look too hot. Thus, we kept it domestic. She chose Las Vegas!

I didn’t know the first thing about Vegas. I might’ve selected gambling and an aged Elvis as the top two things associated with the hot spot. This all made me more than happy to go. A place I’ve never been and don’t know much about? Let’s do it! Inspired by a few Things to do in Las Vegas tiktoks, we had a fun and busy itinerary for our trip. So here’s a recap of our visit to Las Vegas, Nevada!

Vegas doesn’t waste any time because they have slot machines waiting for tourists as soon as you get off the plane. Day 1 of our trip to Las Vegas was spent hanging out at the resort where we stayed. We ate at the resort’s restaurants and enjoyed the pool and lazy river. Day 2 was for sight seeing and doing touristy things: walking the strip with our colorful daiquiris, people watching, and trying restaurants. One thing we didn’t get to do that we planned was take photos at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. Next time Vegas, next time. That night we checked out the Fountains at Bellagio then headed to Fremont Street. That was a completely different, I’d argue more lit, vibe. We stopped at one place to take our chances on the slot machines and one of us got lucky! Fremont street was a pretty cool place. On our last day, we tried a salad spot for late lunch (salad is our favorite), got dressed for a nice Italian dinner and a Cirque du Soleil show. We checked out the Grand Canal Shoppes at Venetian mall and spotted Hill Harper! We had Italian at the mall—expensive but delicious. Later we went to Treasure Island to see a Cirque show, which was pretty interesting to say the least.

So for a first-time Vegas trip, I really enjoyed myself. It was even more special having experienced it with both my mother and godmother. I’d definitely go again as we only scratched the surface for all the fun things there are to do in Las Vegas. Though Vegas is a place for gambling, shopping, and eating, you can really have a good time enjoying all the free stuff. That will always be a plus for me! My biggest takeaways from my time in Vegas is that there are a lot of people in the world and a good time is a unifying factor I think we all strive for. A good time is what you make it. I certainly had a good time and look forward to more trips in the future. So tell me, how was your Vegas trip?
